Gallery of Trip
Explore Lev Ha'ir, the Heart of the City, where the first roots of Tel Aviv were planted in 1909. Lev Hair contains some of Tel Aviv’s most beautiful buildings, being at the center of the UNESCO designated “White City” known for it’s Bauhaus, Eclectic, and International Style architecture. The area is densely populated, rooted in history, and with a glance towards the future with impressive skyscrapers, and a high concentration of start-up companies. Bordered by Habima Theater in the north and Florentin and Neve Tzedek in the south, Lev Ha’ir is a gateway to almost every district in the city. Lev Ha'ir is a cultural hub, filled with galleries, restaurants and parks.

Activities:

  • Rabin Square - Right in the beating heart of Tel Aviv is the main large public city square, known since 1995 as Kikar Rabin. This huge expanse is decorated by an ecological pond filled with lotus flowers and koi, and an impressive monument commemorating the Holocaust designed by Israeli painter and sculptor Igael Tumarkin. On the northern edge towers City Hall, which looks like a 1960s communist-style block. Over the years the square has been the site of many celebrations, parades, political rallies, mass protest and peace vigil - none is more famous than the one in November 4th, 1995, in which Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated. A memorial was built just on the spot of the assassination, and an interactive remembrance wall tells the tale of Rabin and his legacy of peace.

  • The White City - Tel Aviv has been named the “White City”, because of the unique Bauhaus architecture. The Bauhaus School of Architecture was established in Germany after WW1 when there was a need to rebuilt the country in the wake of the destruction of the Great War. It was the place where the International style of architecture was developed, while many of the graduates were members of Germany's Jewish community. Those very people who took part in the rehabilitation of Germany after the war, had to flee in the 1930's with the rise of the Nazi party. Many of them came to Israel and made good use of their education, skills and experience, becoming key participants in the design of the young city. When many of the Bauhaus buildings were destroyed in Europe during WW2, Tel Aviv was left as a the only living monument to this fine and unique style. In 2003 UNESCO has declared it a world cultural heritage site as a result.
Tour in the central area of Tel Aviv; appreciate the beautiful buildings and extraordinary balconies which have been preserved and even enhanced in recent years.

  • Dizengoff Circus - The iconic public square in the heart of the city, named after Zina Dizengoff, wife of first mayor - Meir Dizengoff. Designed by architect Genia Averbuch, this is probably the only "Bauhaus Piazza" in the world, and it sure lives up to this title: a round space surrounded by white, mostly restored, Bauhaus buildings of the 1930's, with curvilinear white balconies. Around it is a lively scene of bars, cafes and urban picnics by the Fire and Water fountain, famous work of the acclaimed Israeli artist Yaacov Agam.

  • Rothschild Boulevard - Continue to Rothschild Boulevard, one of Tel Aviv’s central and most desirable boulevards. Here you will feel the modern vibe of the city while learning about the establishment of the State of Israel. As the "First Hebrew City" Tel Aviv became the center of culture, finance, technology and leisure in Israel - and so it is until this very day. Take a moment to experience the Tel Aviv coffee culture on this tree-lined, picturesque street that is very popular with locals.

What's the weather like in Israel?

v
In Israel, the northern and coastal areas enjoy a Mediterranean climate, meaning summers are hot and dry, while winters are cool and rainy. Down south and in the east, it's much drier. Rainfall usually comes between October and early May, with the most rain falling from December to February. It is always best to check the weather forecast beforehand. Spring (late March – May): Daytime temperatures are generally very pleasant - around 65-70°F, though it can still be hot in some areas (such as the Dead Sea and Eilat). There is a slight chance of rain, but it doesn't happen often. It can be cooler in the evenings in the North and Jerusalem - approximately 45°F. Summer (late May - late September): Temperatures are usually in the high 80s-90s. At this time of year, humidity will be highest in Tel Aviv and Tiberias. Other areas such as Jerusalem are drier and cooler, particularly at night. The desert, Masada and Eilat are extremely hot, but dry. It will almost never rain in the summer in Israel! Fall (late September – November): Same as Spring, but the rain can begin towards the end of the season. Winter (December - early March): Winter can be mild and sunny, or severe and overcast. There's often heavy rain and, in January and February, even snow at times! Temperatures will be in the 50s-60s most places, but in the 40s in Jerusalem and the Galilee hills, and cold at night. Pack layers and be prepared for anything! Weekly weather forecast
