  • Meet your guide at the City of David and begin your Jerusalem tour

  • Tour the City of David - Biblical King Hezekiah had the Siloam tunnel built in preparation for an Assyrian attack in the 8th or 7th century BCE, to redirect water from the Gihon spring into Jerusalem. This is located inside the City of David archeological site. Today, you can splash through the knee-deep water, in the dark, as you marvel at this astonishing feat of ancient engineering that is still standing today. This is one of the highlights for families.

  • Proceed to the Kotel (The Western Wall) - Sacred because it is one of the last remnants of the Second Temple that was destroyed by the Romans. Feel the stones that have witnessed so much in the history of the Jews. Place your special and personal prayer in the cracks of the stones.

  • Lunch break at the Arab Market - Browse in the famous Arab shuk (market) in the Muslim quarter. Check out the local hummus and sweets, the many stalls selling spices, pastries, pottery, sheepskin, embroidered clothes, and so much more. Meet store-owners whose stores have been in their family for generations.

  • Tour of The Western Wall Tunnels - Explore what’s under the Kotel through the Kotel Tunnels Tour. The Western Wall is impressive, but its greatness is truly discovered when you descend underground to the Western Wall Tunnels. The tunnels run along approximately 488 meters (1601ft) of the Western Wall, giving visitors a taste for the challenge that stood before Herod the Great during the biggest of all his immense building projects - the expansion of the Temple Mount.

  • Church of the Holy Sepulchre - The Holy Sepulchre is situated on the hill called Golgotha or Calvary. The Church contains the last five Stations of the Cross including the sites of Jesus' crucifixion and burial. Several Christian denominations claim ownership to various parts of the site so holy to Christendom.

  • Tour the Jewish Quarter - See archaeological finds from the First and Second Temple periods, Roman ruins, vibrant synagogues, and learning institutions, all jostling for space in these busy stone streets. The central plaza offers an excellent place to contemplate the power this quarter holds for so many.

  • Magnificent lookout from the Tower of David - The Tower of David Museum is located within the iconic citadel of Jerusalem. Enjoy a bird's eye view of the old and new city.

  • Family dinner at a local restaurant - We will be happy to make suggestions and reservations for you (meal not included).

  • In the evening come back to the Jaffa Gate to watch the Night Spectacular Sound and Light Show - Amidst the archaeological remains in the David Citadel courtyard the story of Jerusalem unfolds through virtual reality images. The Night Spectacular uses trompe l'oeil technology – the stones of the walls and structures fade into the scenes and the viewers are part of a multi-sensory experience. (tickets included, no guide and transfers)

  • Jerusalem

Overnight: Jerusalem
Meal Plan: breakfast

3 - Monday (October 24) : Cultural Mosaic

v

Activities:

  • Breakfast at your hotel

  • Tour of Bethlehem - Travel to Bethlehem and tour with a Palestinian Christian guide. Visit the traditional birthplace of Jesus. The Church of the Nativity is thus one of the oldest Christian churches in existence. During the Crusades it was a primary place of pilgrimage.
We’ll see artwork by the infamous Banksy on the security barrier (separation wall) and spend some time discussing his increased presence in the West Bank since 2003. This will be an opportunity to discuss the barrier from a Palestinian perspective.

  • Authentic lunch at a local home - This will be an opportunity to discuss life in the West Bank from a Palestinian perspective.

  • Proceed back to Jerusalem

  • Check out Machane Yehuda Market - In the heart of Jerusalem, a bustling multi-ethnic market bursting with life, art, and flavor, a tasting tour through Machane Yehuda Market is an adventure for your taste buds. Enjoy the hustle and bustle with all the rich fragrances, colors, and sounds this iconic Jerusalem market offers. A culinary tasting tour is available for an additional cost.

We will have the opportunity to hike up to and cool off in the refreshing pools and waterfalls of the Ein Gedi Nature Reserve.

  • Masada National Park - Ascend the mountain from the west to explore Masada, scene of the epic stand by Jewish rebels at the end of the Great Revolt against Rome nearly 2,000 years ago. The new museum at the Visitor Center reveals the secrets of the daily life of the rebels, the story of the excavations, and how the site became one of Israel’s most important symbols.

  • Time to swim at the Dead Sea - Israel’s Dead Sea is the lowest point on earth, a stunning, other-worldly landscape of shimmering blue water ringed by bare, orange and yellow hills. The waters of the Dead Sea hold a potent solution of minerals and salts that have strong healing properties.
